Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County offers scholarships for our "Big Buddies" and "Littles" to help offset the expenses associated with educational programming.
Big Buddies
$500 Scholarships:
Awarded to two Shelby County and two Darke County students for the 2019/2020 college academic year.
Recipients announced on May 1, 2020
Check distributed shortly thereafter and made payable to the student. Award will be presented at the May 2020 Big Brothers Big Sisters Board Meeting.
Minimum Requirements to apply:
Student must have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA throughout high school.
Must be a high-school senior enrolled in a Shelby County or Darke County school.
Must be a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters for two full academic years.
Must have at least 60% attendance participation with the Big Buddies program.
Applicants must plan to pursue an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in any field of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or technical school.
Part 2: Two References (forms included with application) from teacher, guidance counselor, principal, and/or community service coordinator (excluding Big Brothers Big Sisters)
Part 3: Submit a typed, double spaced essay (500 word minimum, no more than 1,500 words) OR present a 2 to 3 minute speech at a BBBS Board meeting in Versailles at 5:30 on April 14th. Choose one of the following topics to complete as an essay or presentation:
Choice 1: Tell us about your experience as a Big Buddy - why you chose to get involved, what you learned from the experience, and how being a Big Buddy has impacted you or your little's life.
Choice 2: Tell us why volunteering is important in the community. Include factual information about the impact of volunteering/helping in the community as well as personal reasons for volunteering.
Submit application and essay no later than April 3, 2020
Littles
$50 Scholarships
Scholarships are available for "Littles" to help fund participation in camps, courses, classes, and other programs which will greatly benefit the child.
Scholarships are worth up to $50 each.
The maximum award per child, per calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) is $100.
Complete one application per camp, course, class, or program.
Minimum Requirements to apply:
Child must be enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County.
Child must be a resident of Shelby County or Darke County, Ohio.
