Not only is the agency getting support from the community, a few of the Bigs and Littles in the program are forming teams and asking for donations in the local area. Little Sister Sandra took the initiative, with the encouragement from her Big Sister Mindy, to walk around her neighborhood and ask for support for their bowling team. In about an hour, Sandra had raised $140 to go toward their team. “Sandra took the initiative this year and asked for donations all on her own. I’ve helped her a lot in the past, but this year it was all her,” said Sandra’s mother, Beth.

Last year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County hosted Bowl for Kids Sake 2007, a day-long bowling event to raise funds for the local mentoring program. The two-county agency hosted the event at McBo’s in Versailles and Bel-Mar Lanes in Sidney. Nearly 500 community members came out to bowl at these facilities raising approximately $35,000. Revenues were up from last year’s numbers and the agency was very pleased with the generous support and participation from the community.
