Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a social service program designed to help children who have a special need for a strong relationship with a positive adult. Careful consideration must be given to many factors, past and present, before determining whether an applicant may be considered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Certain aspects of your family life, health, personality and behavior may have a significant impact on the relationship you form with your Little Brother/Little Sister. Pertinent information will be shared between all parties concerned in order to create the best match, though names will be kept confidential until the match is made. The volunteer screening process includes an in-home interview, a personality test and a criminal record check. If you are interested in becoming a Big Brother/Big Sister and want more information, just fill out the following form and we will contact you. When an interested parent calls Big Brothers Big Sisters, an orientation session is scheduled. at the orientation, a professional caseworker will talk with the parent about the program. Later, a caseworker will conduct an in-home interview with both the parent and child to determine the child's needs and interests. The Big Brother or Big Sister selected for the child will be introduced to the family at a "Match Meeting." Once the parent has approved the match, the child will spend several hours every other week with the Big Brother or Big Sister. Goals will be set for the match and the caseworker will contact all parties, once a month for the first year, to ensure the child is benefiting from the relationship.
