How Do Kids Get Involved?
Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Shelby & Darke County matches children ages 5 to
16, who reside in our service area of Shelby and Darke County. Children
who are accepted into the program may be experiencing: poor school performance,
difficulty in making and keeping friendships, conflicts with family members,
isolation, limited resources outside of the children's home, or simply
a need for a positive role model.
Not every child from a single-parent home
needs a Big Brother or Big Sister. Many can rely on the support of other
family members. But in cases where a caring adult is needed and requested,
Big Brothers Big Sisters can provide a friendship
and support. Special exception may be made for children from a two-parent
home but in an at-risk situation.
Our goal is to provide children with a positive
role model who can be there offering guidance and support. We want these
children to have the opportunity to build special relationships that will
have lasting impact on their lives.
