Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Shelby and Darke County held its first annual Duck N’ Run 5k
Run/Walk on Saturday in Sidney. The race, which raised money for the local
agency, drew a considerable amount of participants for its first
year.

Over 120 runners participated in the race, which wound through Sidney’s scenic Tawawa Park. Refreshments and an awards ceremony awaited runners at the finish line, with medallions awarded to the top three runners in each age division.
This year’s overall race winner was Dave Johnston of Xenia. Johnston, 33, finished the race with a time of 15:50. Chad Mitchell, 20, of Sidney ranked second overall for men with a time of 16:09. And third overall for men was Ben Freytag, 16, of Sidney with a 17:21 finish.
The overall female winner was Christina Johnston , 27, of Xenia. Johnston finished with a time of 18:17. Crystal Karnehm, 32, of Piqua was second overall for females with a time of 20:51. And third place overall for females went to Cheryl Chaney, 45, of Troy with a time of 21:16.
First place finishes for the male age divisions are as follows; 10 and under, Zack Davie, 10, 24:26; 11 to 14, Hayden Merkel, 13, 20:01; 15 to 19, Aaron Dinzea, 15, 18:01; 20 to 24, Ryan Foster, 22, 21:11; 25 to 29, Joshua Gayhart, 27, 25:42; 30 to 34, Jay Westerheide,33, 25:22; 35 to 39, David Bair, 36, 20:35; 40 to 44, Tod Huston, 41, 20:12; 45 to 49, Bill Haber, 45, 18:39, 50 to 54, Tom Miller, 53, 23:28; 55 to 59, Bob Puthoff, 56, 27:12; 60 and over, Ron Argabright,65, 22:00.
First place finishes for the female age division are as follows; 10 and under, Jasmine Ceyler, 10, 57:16; 11 to 14, Tracy Fujimura, 14, 23:22; 15 to 19, Rebecca Fujimura, 16, 24:17; 20 to 24, Meredith Hale, 20, 21:20; 25 to 29, Anna Stryker, 25, 28:48; 30 to 34, Kristen Dilbone,32, 27:31; 35 to 39, Annette Bair, 36, 24:12; 40 to 44, Shelly Haber, 44, 23:02; 45 to 49, Brenda Burns, 49, 22:29, 50 to 54, Kate Moeller, 54, 30:24; 55 to 59, Linda Spraley, 58, 32:39.

was Chairperson for the race and was satisfied with the turn out for the
first year. “We were pleasantly surprised with how many runners came that
morning for same-day registration,” said Kremer. Kremer added that, “for
our first efforts, the event ran smoothly and we received several positive
comments about the race from runners.”
